Whats the cheapest american gold buffalo bullion coin avaliblr right now. I want to have at least one of either (1/10,1/4, 1/2)im not looking for a collector coin but just as another bullion one. I also noticed there are 1 oz 2010 avalibles but I dont see any lower ones which I'm interested in

Fractional Buffalos were only minted one year, 2008, and they have very low mintages which leads to very high premiums. The 1/10oz is worth about $500 right now, almost 3x as much as any Gold Eagle. If you just want bullion, a fractional Buffalo is definitely not the way to go.

Even the 1oz Buffalo is expensive right now. It is running about $110 to $120 over spot. You might want to consider the Eagle or Maple Leaf coins. The Maple Leaf is not bad with one ounce markup at about $60 and 1/10th oz available for about $180 (gold at $1340). Because of the markup, it really isn't the best time to buy the Buffalo as an investment coin. The markup will come back down when the 2011 coins come out. The fractional buffalos will probably always be expensive and may make sense as a numismatic investment but not as a bullion one.

I don't really collect gold, but I've heard that the Austrian Philharmonic coins have the lowest premium right now.

I already have maple and american eagles and just want something different to add, varity is the key right. At the current price you can find american eagle or maples 1/10th on ebay between 150-160 (in capsule or graded) while the Austrian Philharmonic are not as avalible. They seem to have the lowest premium on APMEX though but then add the fees of debit card? and then shipping

The 2008 Fractional Gold Buffalos weren't offered as "bullion" coins.

They were sold only in "collector" Proof and Uncirculated versions,
all with the "W" mint mark (which is not used on bullion coins).

Oh, by the way, my apologies to any of our Austrian members. I believe the proper name of the coin is the "Wieiner Philharmonicer" for Vienna Philharmonic. We Americans can get wrapped up in our pet names for things. The 1/10 and 1/4 oz are my favorites. Don't know why, they just look neat. Neat being an American numismatic term.
