I was just on the US Mint web site and noticed that the 2006 Prestige set has not sold out as of yet. According to the description, there will only be 50,000 of these sets made. Looking in the Red Book, this will be the lowest minted Prestige set so far. We already know that the Ben Franklin Commemorative sold out within the 1st day. I guess my question is - Why has it not sold out as of yet? Maybe I am being silly, but to me I thought they would of sold out by now. Is it the price?

I beleive that the mint is holding it open to see if the 10 order max was too many. Look at the ship date---December for crimminy sakes!
Here are my thoughts, they keep it open past the sell out point....then when too many people have 10 of these, they reduce the number that you ordered like the BEP did on the TX coin and currency so that everyone gets one.
Besides if they don't close it maybe folks who bought 10 (or more) will cancel all or portion of their order becuase they see that it hasn't sold out yet, i.e. the folks trying to make a quick buck... I am waiting to see what NN posts for sales figures next week....then I will know better...

Here is the link morganman http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10054According to the description it says: it is the most complete offering of United States Mint 2006-dated coins. This new, exclusive collection is strictly limited to 50,000 sets. Looking at the 1996 Prestige that only had 59,000 sets made, it is now worth apx $700.00 according to the Red Book. I just don't get why these are not sold out yet.

I personal think the mint has made so main thing to sell and collector are having to deside to be a little more selective on what they buy. Also think mint is starting to became a little gready that is why they have so main set and they are making them more expensive to get. I know with my finacal stication there is no way I can buy every set the mint put out. unless I just collect new stuff that the mint put out each year. but that is not nearly as fun as buying a little bit of everything.

I think your right djluster, the mint is starting to get a little greedy. I guess the reason I question this mint set is because of the Ben Franklin commemorative. Those sold out so fast and are already worth double...
I was thinking of buying another one so I could keep one and sell one in the future. Now I'm not so sure...that's why I was asking what everyone else thought.

I have some on order, but I do not consider it a Prestige set. True Prestige sets are labeled as such. MM

Your right....I guess it does not say that specifically....in the description it says:
Presented in unique and prestigious packaging
It is like all the past prestige sets having the commemorative. Maybe that's why they are not selling, because of the description.
If anything then, it is the 1st legacy set put out....

No they had a Legacy set last year in 2005 and if you look at how it is selling on ebay then that might be the reason it is not sell out fast.150-200 dollars on ebay and the Marine Corp comm was very popular. So I think people are looking at the fact they may not see it going up in value really fast. But it does look like the set has gone up in value since the release of the 2006. I was looking at before the 2006 set went on sell and it wasn't as high as it is now. so maybe the populaty might be there now that the 2006 is out.

Oops, my mistake. I was looking in my 2006 Red Book and they do not list the 2005 Legacy set for some reason. I left my 2007 Red Book at work...Do you know how many 2005 Legacy sets were made?

I believe that 50,000 was the number for 2005 as well.

Just got my NN in the mail today. Apparently as of 22AUG06 more than half of the 06 prestige sets had sold. I would expect that they will sell out within the next couple weeks based on that info.
