I have gone to my local shop several times to get some "BULK' "JUNK" and he tells me that it is gone as soon as it comes in the door.

Now my question is , With the present world economic climate (pretty scary) Could they, Are they, The people hoarding the coinage for fractional monetary silver. Hedging against a possible world economic collapse. Or just speculating on the rise. Why coins when bars and rounds are easier to store? Any thoughts on this?

Why would bars and rounds be easier to store then coins? Is it because the rounds are 99.9% and the coins are 90%, because that is only about 10% easier to store, and it is a lot easier to make change on a silver dime then a 1oz silver round if the fecal matter contacts the oscillating air-blower.

Just my opinion, but I have to disagree, coins are no more difficult to store than bars or rounds. I am sure they are being bought as both a hedge and for profit; with profit being the more likely reason.

Yes

One thing about coins in a barter scenario is people will recognize them as such. I agree with Jbuck that it's more likely hope for the best rather than prepare for the worst.

Silver has risen tremendously the last 6 months or so (as we all know)
and everybody is getting on board for the ride.
Sometimes that means a bubble is upon us but I don't know about that.

If I had bought a lot of silver in the past month, I would be a little antsy.

When I said easier to store in my personal experience the tubes I use for my rounds vs the tubes for my coins, By weight and space in the safe the rounds take much less space. And if you go by purity and true weight it takes even less. So to speak But then again silver is silver no matter what the form

timsumrall: I have to disagree with you. If you showed the average Joe a silver dime and a 1 oz round they might still confuse the dime for a regular one. Most people, in my experience, just don't know the difference.

I think buying silver coins instead of rounds/ bars gives silver the added advantage of being sold later for numismatic value also. That is why I would want to buy silver coins instead of silver bars.

also that they were backed by a gov which used to believe in the gold/silver standard, but you should IMHO should have at least one roll of (ASE, maples, onzas, etc). The only thing I dont like about .999 is that your paying a preieum on them, unlike junk silver and usually get a spot

What's the difference between "spot" and "melt"? It seems that people are using these terms interchangeably on this forum. For example "I just bought this coin at spot." or "I just bought this coin under melt."

So what I'm getting is "They" are hoarding bars and rounds for large deals, and coins for fractional deals After the world economic Apocalypse
