I believe it's a 25 dinara note from Yugoslavia. See the emblem or coat of arms to the right of the guy on the front? That is theirs, you can always tell by the single star above the lion's head. It's on their coins also.

See coin #2 in my post from yesterday. This Yugoslavian coin has the same emblem except for the lion it is a torch.

Thanks Irish! It was your post from yesterday that inspired me to finally put this up for identification. I had been thinking it was Russian or Greek or something. I appreciate your keen eye. Any clues as to what year/when?

The bill is perfectly crisp except, unfortunately, for the equal folds. My Mom had this in a drawer.

Thanks again!

Debbie,

I found the exact note. I was in the right area just the wrong country. It is from Bulgaria. It is a 25 Leva note and it is note #BG84 in the list of notes on this webpage.

http://www.banknotes.com/bg.htm

The guy on the front is Georgi Dimitrov. He was the prime minister or leader of Communist Bulgaria from 1946-1949. He died in 1949 from what some believe was poisoning by the Russians. Although, it was never proven. The people on the back are happy communist railroad workers. Yeh right.

Oh, and the year is 1951. You can barely see it on the reverse to the right of the happy communist railroad workers.

Way cool! Thanks Irish! I never would have figured that out by myself! Dimitrov wasn't their "leader" for long...hmmmm...bet the story is closer to fact than fiction. This one stays in my collection for now as an unusal item! Thanks for your terrific help! You're great!
