My ebay DSR's have been averaging about 4.94 or 4.95 for quite a while now. Part of that is because I offer FREE SHIPPING on everything I sell on ebay, so my shipping and handling charges have been a PERFECT 5.00 for as long as I've been offering free shipping. Makes sense, right? I checked today and that category has fallen to 4.96! I guess I'm going to have to offer something BETTER than FREE SHIPPING in order to get that back up to 5.00. How shall I phrase that in my listings? Suggestions welcomed!

maybe you need to PAY your customers, and ship it to them (sarcasm).
probably a rhetorical question, there probably isn't anything you could do - realistically.

any time I have won auctions with free shipping, I haven't been able to rate it
odd that yours isn't a 5.00

I agree, ebay has changed the fact that buyers could rate sellers lower than a 5 even with free shipping-offering free shipping automatically gives you a 5 star rating for "shipping and handling charges."

That makes no sense, because with free shipping you get an automatic 5. Just call ebay customer service and ask them to explain. I'm guessing there must be some kind of error.

I just checked your DSR for shipping and handling and it was at 5.0.

Jokingjoker: When you hover your mouse over my DSRs it says 5.0/5.0, but it's rounding up. It's really 4.96, as the graphic below illustrates. I guess I'll contact ebay. I've been offering "Free Shipping" for 12 consecutive months...

It could've arrived late or damaged or not packaged to their standards.

I went to ebay's live chat and talked to a representative. They agreed that it should not have been able to fall below 5.0, but they couldn't do anything about it so they referred to to another department that I had to call (on the phone). So I did that, and after waiting on hold for over a half hour THAT person told me they couldn't help me either and tried to transfer me to someone who could. They couldn't get the transfer to work so they came back on and told me I'd have to go back into the queue to talk to the next person. I told them "no thanks" and hung up.

The old "give the customer the runaround"... works like a charm. When you talk to people like that on the phone, you have to make them realize that you're both human and that one of you is in need of help. Don't say it explicitly, but make it sound like a big deal. Things get done when you remind them why they have a job at all.

Yeah, I'm also sick of ungrateful people. I've made my share of mistakes but often I get low DSR's even when I didn't make a mistake with no complaint. As for your situation, I have no idea how that happened. I got a nasty, condescending representative that time I got 'suspended' for a week with no valid reason given.

There is another way that ebay gets feedback. Lately when I leave feedback they ask for extra information. Were you happy with transaction will you buy again etc. Maybe thats how your rating was lowered from people complaining.
