So, I took a bit of a gamble in my Christmas shopping here. My wife likes jewlry, so I thought I'd buy something pretty for her to wear, and it is a combined gold investment. An attempt at bringing her into my world a little bit with my gold fetish. She likes her shell carved "cameo" rings and such, so this would fit right in...right? This is a 1/2 ounce PAMP suisse gold pendant. The 1/2 ouncers seem to be much harder to find than the 5 gram and smaller varieties, so I went for it when I found one available, even though it had a tad more of a premium. It's big enough that if it somehow fell off her neck when she was wearing it, she'd notice it. Hopefully she likes it and will wear it, and it was the most expensive Christmas gift I have ever bought. Opinions? Anyone else try to get there wives interested in bullion this way?

I don't see how she can't like it! That is almost a cameo but in gold. Nice!

You'll probably think me a "Scrooge", but it's a shoe-in only if she loves gold pendant jewelry. Before you give her the pendant, test the waters. While shopping, suggest a few smaller ones to see what she says. If you are not sure of her jewelry preferences look at the gold necklaces she already has. Oh, and if she already has a Cartouche, you're in the clear. I remember one time I was so happy to find a gold necklace and matching bracelet that weighed so much she'd have to take them off before swimming or she'd sink to the bottom. No brain-er right, I was sure I knew her preference in metals...wrong. When she opened it she said, "They didn't have this in Platinum?" My heart sunk and the set stayed in her jewelry box; she never wore either one. I knew I should have bought her a St. Gaudens double eagle. I plan on putting it on ebay shortly.

Thanks all for your comments. It is a beautiful design, and common to most Pamp Suisse gold bars. I know Aimee likes yellow gold and cameo stuff. I'm just unsure about the pendant look, and the fact that it says 1/2 ounce .9999 fine gold PAMP suisse on the back like all of their gold bars. She does have some gold necklace chains for which to put things on, so this should fit those with no problem.
It's a bit of a "compromise" gift, in that it is half bullion, half jewelry; a bit of both worlds. It is also, by far, the most expensive Christmas gift I've ever purchased. If she likes it though, I may buy more things like this for her in the future to wear, so she can be a part of our bullion hedge endeavors outside of bars and coins(which she has no interest in). Pamp Suisse also has a pendant with a nice rose cameo.
If she doesn't like it though, I will probably keep it for myself in the assay card as strict bullion and buy her something else.

This one I actually purchased off of ebay. They have the smaller 5, 2 1/2 and 1 gram pendants just like this on APMEX, and I think some from gainesville; but the big 15+ gram 1/2 ouncer seems to be much tougher to find. There was only 1 on ebay at the time, so I jumped on it.

the implication was you actully bought it for yourself , but just but your wifes name on the christmas card as a way for you to buy something you want and pass it off like it was for her

The item was meant for a woman. But there is some truth to your statement, as I'm adding assayed gold to our bullion hoard, and I'd hold on to it if she didnt want it.

So true, so true, so true. Regardless of how long you've known a female, you really never, ever know what they will really like today, tomorrow or in two weeks. If I were you I'd heed this warning as noted and try to find out what she would do with that. Always reminds me of when I bought my wife things she said or pretended to love but never mentioned it again.

I wish I could get my wife into my hobbies. I think I would have a better chance getting her into coins more than the antique swords or military items. The only problem is I remember her saying coins are so "boring". Noooo!!

I always remember one of my wife's request for a present was a Ruger Mark 2 with a bull barrel.
