Please give me your thoughts on how this monster was created. Has it been heated?

What's odd about the scratches on the reverse under ONE CENT is that they don't seem to affect the lettering. Is this also post-mint?

Perhaps while working on his 57 Chevy, the mechanic dropped the cent on the manifold. There it sat for quite a while until when taking a wild turn, it fell off. From there it was just another cent used to make change all the way up until you discovered it. How does that sound?
