I know it's a pretty bad looking coin, but I bought about 10 old... barely visible coins for just a few bucks (hoping the would be worth something )

I anyone can tell what it is, and if it might be worth something even in this condition (which I doubt) I would be very grateful

It could be a penny, halfpenny, or farthing, depending on the size. Pennies are 33mm, halfpennies are 27mm, farthings are 22mm.

I picked up an 1827 George 1V penny from a dealer's junk box in good F condition, about 15 years ago. The composition is pure copper, which wears more than bronze. 1827's in Unc. bring $ hundreds.

The Brits. pay a lot more for the 1827's than the 1826's, because they were not released for circulation on Great Britain; they all went to the penal colony in Hobart, Tasmania. The mintage, to suit a penal colony's needs, was quite small. They subsequently saw heavy circulation for many years, much more so than the 1826's issued in Great Britain.

Thanks again Sap, so it's a penny! Since it is 32/33 mm in size.
Also appreciate the extra info from Sel! :)

Sel, it wasn't so much the heavy circulation that has pushed the price up but the fact that they were shipped in barrels that became contaminated with salt water during the sea voyage resulting in heavy pitting/corrosion on most of the coins. Very few survive in anything better than VF.
A few examples were kept in the UK and there are a couple of virtually mint state examples that appear now and then at auction.
