But a risk if viewing on line and not in hand.

Online auction pics;

My thoughts are a filter on the camera to inhance the piece.

Any other thoughts?

Diffuse lighting. Hairlines are invisible if you bounce or otherwise diffuse the lighting.

Question: how close do the hairlines get to the devices? The further they are away, the more likely it's not Genuine, but genuine.

Edit: Keep in mind - some of the superb coins pictured here at CCF would look just like this, shot under the right (not!) lighting. It's a dirty secret, sort of, in that not everyone realizes how much importance lighting plays in making an unflattering coin look like a million bucks (and vice versa). More importantly, the coin you depict would be just as nice in-hand under *any* lighting. The auction photos are probably closer to the in-hand view than your (excellently-shot but more revealing) photos.

This same thing has happened to me before a couple of times, on one really misleading auction picture the buyer gave me a partial refund after informing him of his inaccurate picture.
Rest in Peace

Agree that auction photo is very misleading. Shows the significant bag marks but none of those long fine lines. Toning seems to have been enhanced on the photo too. Photoshop?

It just amazes me as to how different a photograph can make depending on the setting and the technical equipment. Very attractive coin in the first photos, but looks cleaned big time in the second set!

I'm almost curious if they took a photo of a registry coin and then did a transparent overlay of the cleaned/scratched one so that marks and some toning would align.
