Glad you could make it out to the scene. The body looks fresh from the mint, but there's no bronze on the reverse. I'm guessing it got left out in the cold. How can this happen?
Notice the feathers on the bird's wings. They aren't rubbed or worn. The surface isn't scratched. The other side's colour is fine, which is what led me to believe that it was left out in the cold for a very long time. Or out in the sun? It still has a lot of lustre for 40+ year old coin.
I'd like to bump this thread, since I'm still looking for some answers on this coin. I still suspect it's weathering, but a technical term? I'm going to put up some better pics soon.
