Hi: I was going to bid on a PL set and then I got to thinking. I see PL67 and PL66 etc. How bad could a coin from a PL set be? That is, if it is a rarer year, why would someone want to sell it, unless maybe it is of poorer quality even if it is still sealed?

To a lot of people, PL sets are like used cars...you buy them and sell them and make a few dollars in the middle (hopefully), they are like anything else. I cut out 5 1991 25 cent pieces from PL sets, and 4 of them came back PL-67 (NBU-67), worth around $45-50 on the open market each. After certification costs, I broke even. For the older silver PL sets, I'd guess most coins to be at around PL-64. Even at PL-65 or non-certified PL-66, they are "melters" to some people out there. My only real interest in silver PL coins are the ultra heavy cameo coins, the rest (unless exceptionally nice) are just bullion silver sets.

That brings up another question then. Three 1991 quarters I have from ICCS say, MS67 Numismatic BU. Isn't MS used only for circulation coins?

MS67 Numismatic BU = NBU67 = PL67

ICCS, IMO (and the opinion of some others) dropped the ball with MS-NBU. They could have used "NBU-65", or "UNC-65" (as CCCS does), and it would have been a lot less confusing.

Uh-oh. I've been taken on ebay then. Several months back I won a 1991 NBU MS67 quarter. The seller had a sticker of $700.00 on it and said that was the Trends price. I don't want to say what I paid. :( Anyway, can someone check Trends for me and tell me what it says for just a 1991 MS67 quarter please and thank you?

cpu, if that happened, you should demand some sort of compensation from the seller. I've seen MS-NBU coins priced like that before, very intentionally trying to make them look like business strike MS-67's (a '91 in true MS-67 would be worth the $700). It's a low down, dirty tactic used by sellers with no morals or conscience, and it's caught more than a couple people. ICCS shares in the blame too, for picking such an idiotic way to label these.

I would be interested in who the seller is, this might help others who are collectors that subscribe to this forum know who not to buy from. It is too bad that there is no way to let those that are not collectors know that the seller is nothing but a person with no conscience.

Well, The seller has a feedback of 20,000 with a 98% positive, so maybe he just made a mistake on this one. He has a lot of remarkably nice coins. If I hadn't got stung by him, I would have recomended him if you were looking for a good selection of high grade coins. He's: gotjacollectibles

You may wish to google Alan Hager Coins to find some of the history of Mr. "Gotja"

I'm not one to speak negatively about specific people, but this guy is lower than a snake in the grass.

With both 1cent and Rob in East Van There's a section on this forum somewhere for non-reccommended ebay sellers. He definitely belongs there based on this transaction alone.Never mind his similar previuos devious dealings.
