I am a beginning collector- I had a question that I hope someone can answer. I have several US mint proof eagles- Will they be worth more if I sold them in their existing packages from the mint or If I get them graded?

That would depend on the ensuing grade and what the buyer is looking for. Some want the coin in its original packaging and some prefer the graded and authenticated coins. That is a tough call. In the event of a down turn in metals prices I would think the graded coin would hold value better, but that is just my opinion.

I'd have to say keep things minty - in its original form. If the buyer wants them graded that's their prerogative. It might give even more provenance if you never even opened your mail at all and just kept it in the mailing package this whole time.

personally I would be them graded as they seem to carry more of a premium

If they do grade 70 there is a premium when selling. The key is the coins themselves as always. Do they they appear pristine and absolutely perfect under a 5X glass? If they do, then they would be worth sending in. Any type of flaw will keep them out of a 70 holder and not worth submitting. Regardless of what you do, always hang onto all OGP (original government packaging) and that includes the COA (certificate of authenticity) and the mint boxes (not the cardboard shipping boxes though since they add no value once opened).
