Just out of curiosity, why do think this coin is worth $230?

Nuphinex dealers told me it was, Charlton also says it's even worth more, but then again charlton values are overpriced. A dealer said I could get a VF-30 "meter marks". Seems fair to me.

Ok I feel dumb for asking but what is special about this coin or what are "meter marks"?

This coin is a scarce mule variety of 1953 5 cent pieces. As you can see on the photo it has a should fold, determined by the "unflared I in DEI". The maple leaf on the left side of "5 CENTS" is far away from the rim. Making this a scarce mule. Meter marks are just scratches etc... from parking meters.

The price you are asking isn't the problem.$230 is not an unreasonable price to ask for a 1953 SF far leaf in VF.From your photos it is difficult to be 100% certain of the variety of this coin. You should send it to ICCS or CCCS for certification before you try to sell it again.

Keep in mind I am not questioning your intentions, but merely trying to learn. I am by no means an expert, especially on Canadian coins.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a mule coin one struck with mismatched obverse and reverse dies? If so, I don't see where that is the case with your coin.
I did see where there were 2 different Canadian 5 cent coins struck in 1953, km50 and km50a. The km50a does not appear to have a flared "I", and the maple leaf is farther away from the rim than the km50. Yours looks very similar to the km50a, struck from 1953-1962.
Again, maybe it's just my poor eyesight.

You know, if "dealers" tell you it's worth $230, and no one will buy it at $230, it sounds like the dealers are wrong. Besides, book prices are just ... well ... in a book. And ebay isn't a great place to sell coins either. Try a coin show, shop it around to a few coin sites (that sell to collectors) and FOR HEAVENS SAKE, get it certified!

Is CCCS good for certification, it's quite close to me?

Here is my take on this:
Trends price for this Mule coin in VF 20 is CAN $ 400. this coin is most definitely NOT VF20 Maximum F15, with the scratches only F12 pricing. Now we have a trends price of CAN $ 300. a dealer well NEVER pay 75% of trends. Might offer 50% of Trends, most likely only 35 or 40%, or even less. Question: when has any of you ever paid a dealer 100% of Trends? Or even 100 % of his asking price? do the math.. and be honest about it. I would pay you maximum $ 140, incl. shipping, for this coin. sorry guys, but these are hard facts... NOW, if the coin would be AU50 or better...,.there would be a better market.... AND... this coin is NOT all that scarce... H
