I'd stay away from any coin from Hong Kong.
Something about the letters on the reverse bother me on the second one - they're too skinny or something.

A while back, I was considering buying one. After looking around, I concluded my safest bet was buying one slabbed. Irregardless of seller location, there are just too many forgeries out there to buy raw, imo. Regarding the ebay coin, compare that one to one slabbed by NGC. On the ebay coin, I'm immediately leery due to the weaknesses in the legends, esp. the first "A" in "KALAKAUA". Oh yeah--something else: this coin on a "private listing". ebay: NGC AU55

Almost all coins from a seller with low feedback located in East Asia can be automatically assumed to be a fake, with the except of a rare few instances. Obviously precaution has to be taken with all sellers, since not all fakes come from outside of the U.S.

I have been scammed by ebay sellers, who sold counterfeit or copy coins. one was the Hawaiian King dollar. The Isabella Quarter and the Lafayette dollar. Very lucky to get my money back. If it seems to good to be true it usually is. Buyer Beware. I learned a good lesson.

I have been keeping an eye on these beauties too. I narrowly missed an auction for a Hawaii dollar from an ebay seller called Aspencoins.

New seller Expensive coins Counterfeit capital of the world 3 looks mashed Ks are inconsistent Confusing shipping cost Confusing return privilege 15 days to ship Looks nothing like known genuine WAY too many red flags
1846 dollar looks like a broadstruck, but if it is, it should be promoted as that, since those are rare on dollars.

Sellers of counterfeits allowed on ebay? I suppose you also think TV wrestling isn't legit.
