I'm learning how to build a website. this site is going to be about coins, their value, silver, gold, investing, etc.
I need some input on what other sources of information would be helpful to make this site better. thanks!

I hate to sound a bit pessimistic but your rather on the late side of making such a web site. Regardless of how you do it, make it look, etc., your rather to late. For example if you went to Google and typed in Coins you would get 76,400,000 possibles. If you typed in Coin Web Sites you would get 3,420,000 possibles. If you do make a new one that would be 3,420,001 such sites. Just who would find yours and why? Coin Web Sites today are excessive. This is sort of what happens to many popular items. For example remember Beanie Babies? At one time there were actual stores around me that specialized in them. At one time there were stores that specialized in VHS video tapes and they too found compition was also running wild so they too went under. A very few coin web sites are popular today and this is one of them. Out of all the others, they are lucky enough if anyone even finds them.

just_carl,
i am well aware of the expressiveness of coin websites popping up. in theory, you are correct, I am A LOT LATE. there are ways of making a website come up on google ahead of other sites. its called search engine optimization. it is based on keyword density, traffic, etc. not many people know how to build a website, let alone one that actually gets traffic. in just under one month alone, I already traffic 500 people daily.
in theory, you could build another 'facebook'; if you optimized it, built it correctly so that google recognized you as the 'authority' on the subject, then you would theoretically come up first rather than than facebook. when you type in "coin websites" into google, yes, you get 3million+ sites. I guarantee you that the first one that comes up is optimized so it will do just that, come up first. a website , even like this one could be done better. that's basically what I am trying to do; capitalized on an idea that has already been done, but do it better. As far as "Just who would find yours and why?" well, like I already explained, even if you werent trying to find it, it would be built in such a way that when you search things like, coins, coin value, rare coins, gold coins, etc, my site would be optimized correctly so my site would be the first to show up on google. anyways,...
i do not expect to be the next coincommunity, or PCGS for that matter. the purpose of my site is to inform people on coins, numismatics, collecting, investing, etc. I get it, there are millions of sites that can give them that as well. it all comes down to how its built and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Its exciting really. I cant wait to put up more information! thank you guys for your requests. ! keep em coming and I will get it built!

Quote: I guarantee you that the first one that comes up is optimized so it will do just that, come up first. a website I don't mean to sound mean, I really don't.... But you've got some serious reading to do. For starters, you can have what you, or some some "expert", thinks is the best optimized site on the planet and it doesn't mean you'll even be on the first hundred pages. I could show you a page that has one empty text box and one rotating ad unit on it, it has absolutely no content, no keywords, no nothing, and its been number one for it's keyword for at least a half dozen years with zero on site SEO.

I think photograding like (or a link to) pcgs photograde is very useful. I also take an interest in value trending and mintages of coins. I don't know how these numbers are verified but I really enjoy the "estimated remaining" for particular coins.

im no "expert" on websites or SEO or anything web based for that matter. I was trying to defend the fact that someone thinks that I am ignorant to start another coin website.
i have put some good hard thinking and research into the site and it is by no means even close to being finished.
i do agree with you, we have been optimizing and it will not show up, I know why. it has a lot more to deal with just SEO. a lot of sites have been around for YEARS, which has a lot to do with them coming up, it also has to do with your ranking and backlinks, etc. I could go on. I did not want to go into it more than I had to to make a point is all. Believe me, I have read and am still reading up on this subject.
I would appreciate it if people that actually have some good suggestions for the site to comment, instead of people telling me that I'm "not trying to sound mean" or "negative" and tell me I have more reading to do or that I am a little late on the idea. Then I would of made the title of this thread "i need help with building a website, what do I do"
Thanks
