I found this in a box in my father in laws collection and was hoping someone here has some info on it. It passed the tissue test and has .925 and 1OZ written on the cardboard in the flip. Thanks....

Anything on the reverse? Obviously, the man in the middle is Lincoln circa New Salem days. The distinguished gentleman on the left is probably a composite Illiniwek Confederation Indian. Below him would be an engine from the Illinois Central railroad, one of the first rail systems in the US. Lower left would prove to be very enigmatic unless you are intimately familiar with the entire state of Illinois(or perhaps a Mormon). Nauvoo was once the home of the Mormon Church and founder Joseph Smith was lynched in the nearby county seat of Carthage. It is a sunstone from the original Nauvoo Temple. Unfortunately, the guy on the left has me completely flummoxed. It resembles a presidential US Grant but he has fairly weak links to Illinois and none after the Civil War. He worked in a tannery owned by his father in Galena for ~2 years before the Civil War broke out and he briefly commanded a regiment in Cairo at the beginning of the war, both pretty meager ties. It could very well be someone else but only The Shadow knows!

Thanks for the info Bio, I tried to post a pic of the back but for some reason it wouldn't work. On the back is the Vandalia State capitol building with the dates 1820-1839. Around the outside of the coin it says....

Offical 1974 Illinois Medallion United States Bicentennial 1776-1976

I always thought it was given to him or bought at at a Centennial celebration. I didn't know if there was a way to put a value on it or not. Looked on E-Bay with no luck. thanks again.
