I have 36 Formerly BU Morgan and Peace dollars reduced to bullion by a house fire Should I dump them now at the current silver price and put it down on that ever elusive 16-D In AG? Or wait for the price to go up more and look for a higher grade Any thoughts? Coggie

That is a hard one to call. Some would say wait and let the price go up. And up it may go but how far is the question. I say you set a price target and when silver hits it you pull the trigger and sell. Just don't set it too high. How bad are these dollars anyway? Can you post some pics? I may be interested in a few of them if you do decide to sell and have met forum requirements for selling.

Good question...if I knew what silver was going to do, I'd be a lot richer. I'm guessing silver would have to increase quite a bit to upgrade from AG

I figured about $40 an ounce give or take. Providing the prices don't raise equally

Quote: I figured about $40 an ounce give or take. $40 an ounce? For your sake Coggie I hope it does. But from my end I would like to see $2 an ounce again...........so I could stock up on "junk" silver coins.

First off, I am sorry to hear that. $40 an ounce is wishful thinking IMO but, who knows?

Remember, whether it's coins, equities, bullion, anything in quantity, there's always the option to split or phase the transaction. With stocks, it's generally referred to as "locking in gains or minimizing losses on a portion of your holdings." You could sell some with silver at $29 (or your near term price target) and hold the rest to see what happens. By doing this, I've always found I'm more happy, for example, if the price drops to $19 than disappointed if the price rises to $39. Just a suggestion. Good luck!

I don't know if $40 per ounce is unrealistic. On friday the spot price of silver closed at $29.38. I am starting to believe the price can easily rise another $10 by next year. Possibly sooner than later. The one thing I have done is sell a portion of my junk silver at different times. By selling a few here and there, I am not committing myself to only one price. I find it is easier to sell a few and if the price goes up or down, I can still sit back and know I didn't sell when the market was too low or miss out when it hit its high.

I'd sell now so as to capitalize on the high silver prices.... which is the only upside to your situation. I am so sorry that happened to you!

Some sage advice Onebowl. Silver is at $30.16 and rising. I may hold off a bit longer . But that elusive 16D is closer Coggie
