Whatever dinged the coin left an odd color in the divot. Can you post a pic of the entire slab? Where did you acquire the coin? Does the slab look tampered with in any way? And lastly, is that a First Strike label? PCGS' cert verification does not call out this # as a First Strike.

The cert verification checks out, though I dont remember ever seeing the cert number off to the side of the bar code on any of the slabs. The mark does "appear" to possibly have a different metal beneath the gold, though I cant really tell for sure. Can you get a better pic of the whole slab?

Quote:I bought it from APMEX Good enough for me. It's fine. Whatever dinged the coin left an odd color. Your coin is genuine.

Wow you guys are way more trusting than me. LOL I am actually thinking about removing the coin from the slab and checking its weight and measurements and then cut it open if necessary. Waiting to see if APMEX does the right thing. They are in the process of telling me its fine right now and as advertised (I don't know much about coins at all but I assume this is not a true MS69 at this point). I won't put up much of a fight and will pull out knife and check things out. Will video it in case I have a lead coin.

You should be able to weight it without cracking open the slab. Does anyone know what those slabs weigh? If so, just weigh and subtract to get the coin weight.

PS: What's up with PCGS on that coin? I would think that a big dark colored gouge on the cheek of a coin would preclude it from making MS-69

I wouldn't tamper with the slab...and video won't help as it is too easy to manipulate....I think I would call PCGS and get their opinion first.

Cert checks out fine. Coin looks fine. Bought from a fine retailer of precious metals. What's to question? 69 grades are handed out like candy on moderns that aren't "perfect".
The slab weight? Empty, the slab should weigh 28-29 grams as a ballpark figure.
By the way, why are you questioning it?

APMEX is one of the most trusted bullion sellers. Now that I see the slab, it is one of those unique types, so the cert location makes sense. I'm sure it is fine, but I always weigh my gold in addition to double check.

Haha, second time I saw this coin picture today. Op, you really should link to the thread on arfcom. (I won't do it without your permission). Seven pages of speculation as to if it's a gold-plated slug, if posting about this will lead to him being sued for slandering APMEX, etc. Great stuff.
