I am not sure by your photos it almost looks like a triple *S*. And the 4 looks tripled too! which is another puzzling factor Since the Mint marks were put on by hand. But I do believe I have one similar just not as drastic. Nice find

so your perspective is it has a doubled 4 , thats what I saw, Do you not find that odd considering the mintmark was done by hand

scoutjim99, what do you mean that the mintmark was done by hand? I have no "cents" when it comes to cents. Are you saying all 1943 coins were hand minted? Hope this dont sound like a dumb question....

Thanks

What he means is the mint marks were put on at the mint by hand.

I too have this s/s with the doubled four. Not as blatent though. I didn't pay any attention to this coin because it looks like it's been dipped in something. Both coins look unc but the s/s has much more shine to it. I figured what ever it was dipped in just pooled around this two digits giving them the appearence of being doubled. Am I wrong about this?

There are certain varieties/errors of this steel date penny that show doubling on the 4.

The picture demonstrates the doubled 4, and some of your S mintmark. $20 maybe?
