That's it.

He expects the honest sellers to pay their fees to keep ebay's servers running and internet bandwidth available. But he's unwilling to pay the fees on his own sales.

With ebay's fee structure lately, I almost can't blame him.

The fact that ebay does nothing about these cheaters, even when they are reported is most disappointing. I've reported a few, had some online chats with their support people. The general message I get is that the rules (shipping/handling charge must be about your actual shipping and handling costs) only apply to me. I've been told by their support people that if I list something that way, it could be pulled and I could even be banned for the violation.

Yet weeks after I report some of these, the same sellers are still doing it.

So the rules apply to me, not them.

That's why I'm looking for an alternative to ebay right now.

John Galt, try it and see if they do anything. If they say anything, tell them your handling overhead is outrageous.I think worst case is a warning.

You're probably right. If I wanted to be part of ebay's demise, I'd consider that.

I'd rather find the next great place to sell and be part of their rise. I'll still watch ebay, and I might even consider selling a few things there.

If ebay decides they want my business (and don't expect me to pay for the cheaters) with lower fees and better policing of their policies (or policies that make more sense), then I'll be back; but right now, the negatives there outweigh the positives for me.

From my experience they are actually pretty strict about cheating on fees and other rule breaking (i.e fake or altered coins) when you report them. If you don't already I'd use this link to report ebay violations since there's a much faster response time and it usually works well:
