I just came across an auction item on ebay that caught my attention. It's a 2002 American Silver Eagle Reverse Proof coin. I've not seen anything like it before, or even heard of one. Did the U.S. Mint produce these coins, or are they produced by an individual, or a company not affiliated with the U.S. Government? It has definitely peaked my curiousity.

Good question. I know the mint is saying that the 2006 is the 1st year ever for the anniversary set, so it makes you wonder?

He is either an idiot or a liar. Only one reverse proof has ever been made by the US Mint and that is in the 2006 20th anniv set for Eagles. It is possibly photoshopped or it is a hologram overlay that has had the colors manipulated. At any rate, it is about as real as a dancing banana

the US Mint has never made a Reverse Proof except for the coins that haven't even been released as of yet (in the American eagle sets and such) either that picture was edited or the coin itself was post mint damaged by someone frosting the coin (like painting it) and polishing the other part. It is basically like any other colorized coin or enameled coin it is just a novelty piece because it has lost all numismatic collectible value

Okey-doke. I thought I had stepped onto something new, but I see that I was about to step into something had I bid on that coin. I reckon that's why the seller didn't answer my inquiry about the coin being minted by the U.S. Mint. Thanks to all for the input. That's what I like about this forum - no matter the question - someone here can give you an answer - you guys are great! - dancing bananas and all.
