Hi everyone, this is my first post.

I'm still new to coin collecting and I bought myself "Canadian Coins Volume 1"

This one --> http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books...ikwsec=Books

I was just wondering how it compares to "The 2011 Charlton Coin Guide: A Charlton Standard Catalogue"

--> http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books...page:richrel

Both are made by Charlton. What's the difference? Most importantly, is the one I got best suited for my needs as a new collector who has a lot to learn?

Thanks for all your help.

You got the right one if you're interested in circulation coins.The other is a price list that supposedly reflects prices you can expect dealers to pay you for coins.

Thanks for the reply! I'm relieved to hear that. I may eventually purchase volume 2 but if I buy collectors sets from the mint it's not often so I feel like that book won't come in handy as much as Volume 1.

I have considered getting a subscription to "Canadian Coin News" however. Would you recommend that as well?

CCN is well worth the price. Lots of good content and a Trends section as well.

Welcome Aboard!
CCN is well worth the cost, and if you are new to errors,,and how they 'happen", you will find the articles by John Regitko, "errorman@Look.ca", a most interesting and informative section.
