I have been trying to identify this token found here in California, I don't think N.H.L. on this token stands for National Hockey League. Possibly it is the first to letters of the name L.= Lounge? or possibly it is National Hotel, L.= City? Any help would be appreciated.

I think it is from much before the National Hockey league- how about New Haven Lodge, or else a merchant's initials?

Try getting a copy of Chas.V Kappen's 1976 reprint of California Tokens.
