Quick question about this set. I know there was very few made (25,000 if memory serves me right). Is the set worth keeping together or if I were to break it apart, do the coins hold good value on there own?

I'm asking because I'm buying one for the nickel, but I don't care about the dollar or the paper bill. Should I just keep them together though? I know from a collector's point of view it shouldn't matter and I should do what I want with the coin I want. But if total value of the set is better, I might just keep them in the case rather than split the nickel to put in my binder.

I have been wondering the same thing, although right now I just have a couple of the 1994 Jefferson set,
with the 1994 Jefferson nickel. I have been looking for the 1997 set, hoping to get one under $150 but that
might not happen.

My concerns are.
I might not purchase one of these nickels unless in was in the package or slabbed.
If I don't feel good about buying the raw coin others might not want to either.

on the plus side
These nickels seem to sell good if they are slabbed. And the PCGS slab seems
to sell higher than all the others. This is just my opinion, but what I noticed
from watching them on E bay. For the 1994 nickel (167,xxx minted) it seems
funny I can buy the set in the $40 range, but the slabbed ones I save in
my watch list sell in the $50 to $75 range, for just the nickel.
And there are a lot more 1994 than 1997's.

So for me, one that has never sent a coin in for grading, when I find a good
1997 set, I will break it open and send it to be slabbed.

Edit - I have to add, these nickels seem to tone in the original
package, and more on the reverse than the obverse. I think you
should factor this into your decision as to leaving the coin in
the package.

I'll get a 1994 as well in the future, but I figured I'd go for the big dawg first :). I am seeing the exact same thing as you are. I don't think I'll get the nickel slabbed because I want to put it in my Jefferson Dansco (I added a blank nickel page). However, I might see myself buying a real nice one in a PCGS slab at some point also.

So would you send in the Commemorative to be slabbed? I don't even see any of them selling on ebay. And I don't know if there's anything special about the paper bill, but I hope there is because I could care less about paper bills! I'd love to sell it and get something else.

Its virtually impossible to find one thats untoned especially for the 94 matte, I've only seen two untoned 94 matte examples one of which was a ms 70. The 1997 sets have been trending upward recently, the last 2 I saw on ebay both went for over $170.

I was lucky enough to get 5 of the 1997 Botanic Garden C&C sets from the mint. I believe that I paid $35 per set. I broke the nickels out of 4 of the sets and had them sent in for grading. I was disappointed when they all came back as 69's. I couldn't see any flaws in them at all.
I sold the nickels on ebay and then the Silver Dollars. I gave the paper dollars away to the silver dollar buyers. I think I got just about the same money as what the sets were then selling for, about $250.
If they had come back 70's I would have made a handsome profit. I've got about 8 of the 97 sets now and 10-12 of the 94 sets. The 94 sets are selling for ridiculously low prices. You can buy the whole set for about what the silver dollar in them is worth.

I have the Botanical Gardens Dollar but do not have the C&C set as I wasn't into Currency at all when I got the Dollar. I do like the set but there is no way I am paying that much for it when the only reason I would buy it is just to have it because I could care less about the nickel or the currency and I already have the dollar coin so really no point.

There is a website that sells them a little cheaper than that
