MR. Incectboy. I think your stuff is good. I will say that many times here, whether good or bad,you will find folks that are very discriminate. The way of finding things are good picks or just going to a good dealer or coin club. I would say though, DO NOT fall for some dude or dealer just saying that they will give you a few bucks for your coins.I think that you should listen to the professionals here because they will not steer you wrong.

Quote: Hello My Grandpa passed away, so my grandma gave me his old coin collection which was in a shoe box, These are the two oldest coins and I'm wondering if there is anything interesting about them? cdn44fan gave you the following info. .7596 oz. of silver for the 2 1/2 gulden .9270 oz. of silver for the 3 gulden The actual weight of the coins should be 25.000g. for the 2 1/2 gulden 39.298g. for the 3 gulden If you know anyone with a jewellers scale it may help to establish if they are the real thing.

with thai-vic. Weighing them is a very simple test you can do. If they really are as coppery as they look in the pics, then the weight is likely to be way out. A two decimal point balance should be sufficient.

you can also check if they are magnetic, because if they are... you will have fake ones, but if not... your chances of realness increase dramaticly! And again, I can post the pictures on a Dutch forum (but only with your agreement, since the pictures are yours) Let me know something, because I bet the Dutch collectors will see this in a heartbeat! Oh and it will be better if you can post some bigger pictures :)

to the forum Insectboy, and thanks for sharing the pics of your coins. I must say that I hope they are the real thing, but I must agree that they look to be copper with maybe a silver wash.

Alas, those weights are too low for the coins to be genuine. Sorry.
