I wish it wasn't holed, but for melt you can't go wrong.

Either way it's a nice early date Guanajuato 1R.

Lots of history in these pieces, they were also used up here in the states like their big brother the 8 Reales.

tumbleweedtrumpet Congratulations on your first Cap and Ray coin.

The coin is a 1 Reale not a 2R. You may be misreading the legend based on the shape used for the 1 - Go coins used a long sweeping serif in the early days. That digit is a 1. The die style is REAL - the coins made at Guanajuato were rather crude. The 1830 and 1831 issues are particularly crude and they used 2 very different eagle shapes on the 1 are coins.

Each denomination uses a distinctive eagle shape. You can usually identify the denomination from a photo of the eagle alone.
