Well as you all know. I sold of my collection for little of nothing.
Now that I have really sat back and thought about it. It's tearing me up.
So my thoughts are as I have established a good relationship with my local coin shop. I'm hoping maybe if he still has some of my things I can possibly buy a few of the Items back.
Am I crazy for even trying do you all think. I don't have to have it all back and I know that I will probably pay more that he paid me.
Would it be wrong to maybe ask him to hold onto what I can't afford for a month or so until I get back to work?
Worst he will say is No right? Edited by insideout

Talk to him. If he doesn't understand your situation and what you are going through, especially after establishing a decent relationship with him, that would be pretty hard to believe. Sure, the worst he can say is no, but, why would he?
Get down there first thing tomorrow or some of your coins may be gone. I'm sure he can work something out with you, I know I would. Good luck.

Well most shop there for the Gold and Silver. Which kind of makes it a gold mine for copper and clad collectors. My main concern is getting my Albums back with or without the majority of the coins in them.
IMO it would be in his best interest with me as a customer to work with me.
I may not spend a ton of money but I always leave with something when I go.
But at the same time I understand he is a business man with bills to pay.

I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be willing to work with you. And if he doesn't, then you know where you stand on his VIP list.
If that were MY shop, you'd have your albums back AND your coins for what I bought them for as long as I still had them.
He should know that it would be better to treat you as a lifetime customer than to try and turn a quick dollar right now and lose you for good. I'll take a dollar every time you come in over $30 anyday.

Im sure you can buy it all back , I mean he buys and sells coins right ?
The only question is what you will have to pay to get them back, how much over what you sold them for ?

Do not worry about it one little bit. Quite often the fun of the journey is the adventure is along the way. Selling your collection is OK. That's a milepost. Starting another collection is another milepost.
Travel when you can, and enjoy the trip! Building another collection is the start of another journey.
Just stay in the CCF. We are here to support each other. That's life.

Collection was gone :( I managed to grab a few of my darksiders and my poppy quaters.
Everything else was gone already. One of his buddies he said come in and bought it all. I hope he finds the joy in them that I did.
Now upward and onward to start saving for the new Danscos and To start the hunt for Lincolns and Jeffersons :)

Every coin that you had is replaceable.....I would look at it all as an opportunity....you have experienced those coins, and there are others that you have not....you can now replace (upgrade) the ones that you truly miss, and forget the ones that you don't.
Don't feel sorry for yourself, I don't feel sorry for you....It is a roller coaster ride, and the sooner that you stabilize yourself to the nauseous feelings that come with the ups and downs, the better off you will be.

Me, I'm a pessimist. In this instance I would suspect the store owner put the stuff away somewhere and just said he sold it all. Why would he hold it for someone and possibly not make anything out of it all. By selling it off he makes money and that is why he is there. Of course many coin stores and pawn shops have a steady flow of regular customers that say when something like a coin collection comes in, let me know. Then they do what he said and buys up the entire collection. Usually I've found these are dealers that resell at coin shows. |

Whatever the dealer did is done. I went through some hard times back in my 20's, and sold much of my collection, including a $20 St. Gaudens my dad gave me. I went through almost the same feeling you are going through. I was heart broken about a few of the coins, not all of them.
I have since replaced them with coins I am very proud of and you will do the same thing I can assure you :-)
Keep your chin up and a positive attitude and don't look back, move forward.

Well I'm done worrying about those. I'll pick up a few here and there. This gives me time to really think about what I want to do. I'm beginning to debate the Lincolns. As much as I enjoy them I really feel it's an Album I'd never complete.
As the Keys are so massively expensive.

A Lincoln set in like the VF range, would be quite nice and reasonably affordable. Yeah, those keys are not cheap, especially the 09-S VDB and the 14-D. Worry about those later. This is a set you can take your time on and acquire some nice, original examples. From personal experience, completing a Buffalo nickel set was fun too. swcoin.ecrater.com

Atleast the coins you cherished , is in somebody's else collection. So be happy by starting a new collection.

I think a full Lincoln date set would be cool remember that every minted coin is unique so the whole concept of having a "full set" is ludicrous. I shudder to think how many coins a full die variety and mintmark set of Lincoln's would require (anyone coin geeky enough to know the answer to that?) :)
