My apologies,

I understand now Everyone hoards for different reasons.

Some hoard for the fact copper cents are becomeing more scarce and might bring a decent return in 20-40 years just as commom wheats do today.Being the Memorial cent is gone now and the shield cent is replacing it.

Some are betting on a copper melt ban lift . Although the ban just went into effect 06. The feds reason being was the tax payers would have to replace the cents .But anyone who thnks the ban will get lifted might be right who knows when but still their is a chance.

Some people hoard anything they like.
beanie babies, barbie dolls, fortune cookie papers
they have the right to do so

Some people just like coppercoins. Infact some making a life dedication to searching ,recording and documentsing the coins
aka coppercoins

So it does not really matter if a ban gets lifted or not. The coin community itself holds enough people to pay a prem for copper LMC
no matter what their intentions might be for the cents later on is their bussiness.

Sorry if I offended anyone in any way shape or form.

Do what makes YOU happy , carry on

The best sort of copper to hoard is wire. When I was a kid a long time ago, I would collect all sorts of copper scrap. I was able to see all that I could get at three shillings and ninepence per pound to a scrap metal merchant. I used that money to build a model HO gauge (Marklin) train layout. I was the envy of my mates.

At about 18 years of age that train layout was sold. With the money, I bought my first gold coin, and I aimed for the top. I bought a St. Gaudens $20. That was sold about 7 years later with other coins, to buy my first ancient gold coin. That coin was a Claudius Aureus with the IMPER RECEPTO Praetorian Camp reverse.

From copper to gold.

I don't think you need to apologies for anything. People are basically pack rats. Many people just save anything and everything they get their hands on. I feel the worst part of it is when they pass on, leave us, part, etc., all their possesions are usually just given or thrown away. Hate to say Die since I'm rather old.
A neighbor of mine is now in the hospital with Cancer and has about a Month to live. In his house and garage I estimate about a thousand boxes of model planes, thousands of magazines on planes, many, many photos of planes. All have been slowly thrown in the garbage by his relatives.
Another friend of mine was a real collector of guns, gun parts, accessories. He had vertually hundreds of guns. He passed away and his relatives called in a gun store owner who offered one thousand for everything and they took it. One Mauser Broomhandle was worth more than that.
Yes we all save and hoard something and when the end comes it usually just gets discarded. So few of us make provisions for later. Of course the ancient Egyptians did that and look what happened to all their stuff.

I personally don't think you need to apologize for anything. You voiced and opinion in a civilized manner and it is what it is. Don't tell nobody I said this it is just between you and I . But I think these copper dent hoards are off their rocker. Remember, that is just between the two of us and no body else.............OK? But we will probably be the ones crying in the end, just is how my luck rolls.

Another thing for hoarders to consider is that Uncle Sam may confiscate all your metal during hard times. It has happened before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102

EDIT: A gem 1893-S Morgan is a whole lot easier to hide than a basement full of copper (!)

If you're hoarding pennies for the sake of selling it for it's copper content you're better of using that money and invest it. This way you will most likely have better return on the long run.

If you're hoarding because you like the idea of collecting, hey.. I started buying silver just becaue I like them and now I see my coins more than double in price.

Either way is fine I think

I see no reason to apologize. You made valid points and asked reasonable questions. It's all good if you ask me!

there seems to be one thing missing in many base/precious metal hoarding/collecting discussions. many people assume thaT MONEY SPENT on the aforementioned will reap better ROI in a mutual fund. etc. when and if it all goes south, especially historically speaking, paper and worth squat. as for me, I will continue to placwe AN emphasis on metal

And if you spend the money on a vacation instead, that suffers 100% depreciation as soon as you get home. Most consumer products also depreciate significantly. Copper hoarding may not be the ideal way to "invest" money, but you could do a lot worse.
