I've seen a number of 20¢ Proofs and most have relatively dead mirrors or dark/ugly toning. I just received this recently. It has very nice eye appeal, medium mirrors on the obverse, and near-deep mirrors on the reverse. This is in an NGC Proof 63 holder. Only 5000 TOTAL Proofs were minted from 1875-1878 (only 800 from 1877-1878) and probably less then 2000 survive. Probably less than a third of those have any decent eye appeal at all! Most definitely. It's my first 20¢ Proof. Most look like dogs. I got it from a dealer who typically stays away from unattractive or average coins.

For those who know how difficult it is to get quality photos of nice proofs, you can infer the beauty of the coin from what's missing from the photos. Meaning no disrespect to Prethen's photographic skills, this is one nice coin. I like it.

No offense taken. I know my coin photography skills suck. Yes, you're right about inferring about what's not there, but most beginning to intermediate (even some advanced) coin collectors won't understand that. For instance, you can infer from the lighting and how the devices stand apart from the fields that the coin likely has halfway decent mirrors...and it does. You can see some of the light filament reflecting off part of the coin as it would a mirror. I didn't use enough light to light up the entire surface but it did give a realistic view of the coin in average lighting conditions. I do think the colors are very accurately reflected in the photos even though they appear a little bit more vibrant in hand.
