I have recently bought a few coins of Geta as Augustus. The coins of Geta as Augustus are quite scarce as far as the Severan coins are concerned. He was not Augustus for very long before his death. The following coin is probably the nicest coin of Geta as Augustus that I own. Does anyone else have coins of Geta as Augustus or Geta in general to share here? Geta denarius as Augustus Obv:-- IMP CAES P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG, Laureate head right Rev:-- PONTIF TR P COS II, Geta on horseback riding left, spearing enemy beneath. Minted in Rome. A.D. 209 Reference:-- BMC p. 359 17. RIC 68 (Rated Rare), RSC 130. Only 4 examples in RD so quite a rare coin on that basis. This coin has a pleasing portrait and reverse and I think that it is well engraved on both sides. Regards, Martin

Wow, awesome Ex-Fine coin! My only Geta is a lower grade AS. As you are aware, and for newbies to the hobby, Geta joint reign was cut short by his brother Caracalla. History is replete with such sibling rivalries. Henry I and William (Rufus) II also come to mind. I'll have to dig into my Antoninus Pius group. The five good emperors, Domitian to Marcus Aurelius, are my favorites. Thanks again Martin. Another great coin.

Hi Martin,
I picked up my Geta in a unattributed group. I love purchasing in lots. That's how I started my collection.
It's like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get! LOL.

My first "Geta" was, once I brought it home and properly identified it, actually a Caracalla - the dealer had mis-identified it on the 2x2. Subsequently, I purchased three more denarii, one as Caesar and two as Augustus, to fill the slot for that emperor properly. This one's my favourite: Geta as Augustus, reverse LIBERALITAS AVG V (Generosity of the Emperor, fifth Congiarum), depicting Liberalitas seated with cornucopia and an abacus with which she intends to count out the imperial largesse. Sear# 7427.
