I agree, the reverses are appealing. I am afraid that the obverses will not translate well. As always, I will not give a final opinion until I see them in coin form. They almost always look better as coins than as line art.

i like them ok. I kinda wish on the gold one that the modern solider was in the back and the oldest type solider in the front. I will probably get 3 piece set if they come out with one.

I am quite disappointed in them. They are way to detailed in the drawings to look good in coin format. Why in the world did they choose a surveyer and a guy carrying a sand bag? Not that I'm busting on engineers, but there are more exciting jobs in the Army to put on a coin. Maybe they should get more realistic and put a guy half asleep at a desk on CQ and someone buffing a floor.

I like the Gold 5 dollar and the Silver 1 dollar is OK. The half needs help. Will they sell out?

Even though the designs aren't the greatest, I think the subject matter might make them sell out. Now, does the mint plan on doing a Navy, Marine or Air Force coin? A Coast Guard?

I was in the Army so I will get the silver dollar and half, I wish the Army and MOH were not in the same year. I would like to get the 3 piece set of both of them but on a fixed income that will be hard with the price of silver and gold is at. So I will probally get the 3 piece MOH set if they offer that way.

I'm still in the Army (15 years and counting) so that's why I will probably get it.

Oooh, I never thought of the sandbag idea! LOL
With today's army, can you put a classroom full of soldiers sitting through a death by powerpoint?

I like the Minuteman. I mean, the one holding the rifle, not the one speeding towards target. Well, these reinforce my impression of recent US coinage designs--too much designed by committee. I can say that because I know how the process works. Not that it matters, but what happened to the aesthetics of Longacre, St. Gaudens, Victor D. Brenner, or Morgan? Good taste is timeless, and I state the obvious, a lot.

Will any of these "opinions" be altered when one sees the PRICES THAT THE MINT IS CHARGING ? http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ntifier=4000HOLY MOLEY ! ..... JUMPIN' GEEHOSAPHATS !How in the world can they charge $450.00 for a tenth oz. of Gold ? ... This would be the one I want....but that's just STUPID money to spend on it !.... And $60.00 for a Silver Commem ...... hmrph ! ...... $20.00 for a Clad .50 Cent piece ....is this a joke ? ... Guess I won't be getting ANY of these no matter WHAT I think of them ! Thanks Congress for skimming the public for more funds, and for making overpriced coins even more unaffordable for the "common man". Perhaps they are wanting to evolve back to when this was LITERALLY the "Sport of Kings". Because only "Kings" will be able to afford them at some point ! Is this continous "price planning" within the " Tax and Spend" idealogy I wonder.... ... Far be it from any politician to miss an opportunity for "funds" right ? ..... Of these 6 coins, I like TWO sides out of the 12 sides. I will be purchasing........ = Z.E.R.O.

I believe that price is for almost a 1/4 oz of gold not a 1/10. If it falls into the same category of other 5 dollar gold commemoratives the specification on them are as follows. The commemorative half eagle, standards for weight and size are the same as previous half eagle gold coins: weight 8.539 grams; composition .900 gold, .100 copper (net weight .2418 oz. pure gold). At today's spot price of gold of 1329 that would make the .2418 of gold worth 321.35 dollars. Hopefully with the price of gold going down they will lower the price but I doubt it. That still is a premium of 128.65 per coin.

I didn't want to spend that much money, but I went ahead and got the proof dollar and half. I sure would like to get the gold and complete the set, but they are out of their minds having it marked up THAT much.
I'm afraid I will spend the money on the medal of honor coins too. :O(
