Well After browsing at the coin shop today. I now know the route I want to go with My modern collection. As I'm able to pick up Proof sets and Mint sets fairly cheap I have decided to do a collection of Ike's in the process.

1. How many Ikes are there?

2. I here Type I and Type II can someone direct me so I know what I'm looking for.

3. How many are Silver and they are only 40% right?

29 Proof and Uncirculated coins not including the Peg Leg Ike and other varieties that pop up all the time. If you decide to collect Ikes, you'll need this web site. You could make a collection on the "Blue" and "Brown" Ikes alone.

Insideout-I like Ikes too (I was actually born on the day he was elected president-1952). I have been collecting for a couple of years and decided to start an Ike set thinking they were pretty cheap. Most are, but if you go for graded coins, you can spend a fair amount of money. I just today actually finished my set. I am now spending alot of time looking for varieties (talon heads, peg legs, moonline die clash, etc). A great resource can be found at https://www.ikegroup.org. There are also some experts here on the forum. Stewart will chime in soon and he knows what he is talking about-I have learned alot from him. Carmykle has it going on also. I will be posting pics of my set over the holidays when I have some time. You might want to check out the thread here https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...PIC_ID=60465. There is some good info and pics there. Good luck! Great choice.

Ikes are nice coins to collect. It's also not too expensive, and deep cameo proof Ikes are beautiful to look at.

There are regular date/mint/composition coins and these are fairly easy to get and build a collection of.

There is a very strong "varieties" community as well, but there are so many varieties that this ended up feeling like a sinkhole that I'd rather not go down. ("Endless collecting, never finished.")

The Dansco Ike album is quite nicely laid out.

Well I'm not much into all the different varieties in the coins. Partially because I don't have the magnification to look for the small detail stuff. Just one of each from the mints and the Proofs and I'm happy

That is exactly how I started into the Eisenhower's. Decided it would be a fairly easy set to put together and not a whole lot of expense.
Then I started to learn about the varieties out there and realized that there had been no real intensive study into the Eisenhower varieties.
over the last three years that I have been into them there have been a large number of new varieties and errors discovered. I was a Morgan
and Peace dollar Variety hunter (VAM's)before the Ike's so it was an almost too easy transition. I like the idea of being on the ground floor of all these new discoveries.

Rob Ezerman of the Ike Group is releasing a new book in possibly
first part of January time frame over 400 hundred pages of Collectible Ike's. I had a chance to preview one of the chapters
and all I can do now is in anticipation.
It is going to be a fun winter.

Even if you do not get into the varieties of Ike's it is a great
series to build a set out of with lot's of history to learn
and some great coins in general. They can get very expensive
very quickly once you get over MS66 especially in the
Copper-Nickel clad ones. The most important part of collecting
Ike's I have found is to have fun. The minute it is not fun
anymore I will be moving off to something else.
But I have been steadily having fun with my Ike's for close to 3 years
with many more discoveries to be made
Have Fun and the best of luck with the Series

If you are going to use a Dansco like you did before, then there are 32 listed coins to collect. It is the same list here, except it also includes Type 1 and Type 2 for the 1976 issues.

The Dansco does not include any of the other types (like 1972 Types 1, 2, and 3) or varieties listed at the Ike Group.

The Dansco does have four extra holes at the end, if you would like to collect some of these varieties. For the record, I have only recently taken an interest in the varieties.

If you do not plan to use a Dansco album, then your options are almost limitless!
