Picked this one up at the coin store yesterday for about $42. Full unbroken cartwheel luster on both sides, nice crescent toning on obverse, relatively clean cheek and fields.

It looks like there is some wear above the ear.

My guess is MS-62

Nice coin though, I really like the toning.

I'm pretty sure this one is MS seems to have unbroken luster across all surfaces in hand. Hard to capture in a photo though.

Oh, Hello.

Canadian-Banknotes, O-mint Morgans are known for sometimes-weak strikes. In this case, I feel the "wear" you see above the ear is a weak-strike artifact. It is shelf-like in appearance, something you can also see carrying downward into the ear area.

A fully-struck coin having worn into that area should show corresponding wear on the reverse, which is relatively strongly-struck for New Orleans. Note the remaining detail in the neck and talons, two places where wear should appear almost immediately.

MS-64 all day, in my opinon.

Thanks Superdave, I had no clue that O-mints Morgans had weak strikes.
