I have a chance to get this for $36. I can't afford one without a hole. Is this a good deal?

I would buy a cleaned one before one with a hole in it...the cleaned coin will eventually re-tone but that hole will never go away.

I'd still buy it, if nothing for the history. Or yeah, keeping it jewelry would be nice for the Mrs!

Good deal at $36 considering it's a $300 piece without the hole.
I'd go it if it's what you want and can afford.

Yes, definitely a great deal. I don't really mind the holes as they have enabled me to get a coin that would normally be out of my price range. I think a holed coin in a finer condition is better than an un-holed one in poor condition. The 1806 half begins at $225.00 for G-4. I don't see how you could go wrong with this attractive coin.

I usually don't buy holed coins, but for $36 I would make an exception for this one.

Last time I checked it cost about $200 to get a hole restored up to numismatic stadards. If you pass on it, I will buy it for $36..lol. 205 years of History in that coin! :D

Let's put it this way... I am extremely anal about my coins being "problem free." I won't even buy a coin that has been dipped. But if I saw that in a shop selling for $36 I would definitely buy it. Truth be told I couldn't tell you what holed coins usually sell for, but to own a very early half $ for 36 bucks, why not? I just looked, and here's one on ebay with less detail and the hole in the 3 O'clock position that sold for $80. http://cgi.ebay.com/1806-BUST-HALF-...em2a0c885f05With the one you showed I would probably make a really cool necklace out of it, as fenton suggested.
