I have two I use, the first one is a 10x and the other is actually an eye from am old microscope which if I had to guess is about 40x. These two seem to be good enough for me to see everything I need but have to admit most of the coins I look at are Morgans which are pretty good sized so others may have better options for other series of coins that may be smaller

I mostly look at cents and I would recommend you start out with a 10x. I use a 14x most of the time for the first look and if I need to check it out more I use my USB digital microscope.

Some time ago I went to a flea market and a lady had a massive variety of magnifiers of all sizes and shapes. I purchased about 10 of them for $1 each. Some were about 2X and some 14X. I use all of them for something or other. I take a 4X and a 10X to coin shows.
Depending on your eyes, you could simply look around for the type of glasses you wear with 3X magnification which is decent for normal coin shows or shops.

that's what I will be using mine for a majority of the time. However, I search through pennies and other small coins from time to time for doubling or other things.

I recommend a 10x for the Morgans and cents and if you see something that might be something like an error or a variety then switch to a 14x.IMHO.

I use the 3" with the smaller glass in it, don't know the magifation. Then if needed I have a 16 loupe which works very nice.

I agree with John1, I use 10x for everyday stuff and a BandL 14x for varieties on Canadian Large cents, then there is always the microscope as needed. The BandL 14x is very tiny, but works great, still it is hard to get past how small it is... they say that is the price you pay for higher power.
