I would look on craigslist for a roll of wheat pennies. I would not pay more than $3 for a roll. I can usually find them for about $2.50 a roll. This is not an expensive set to buy. It will be extremely hard to get a set from roll hunting. at first it is easy to get them cause the entire roll will fill your slots for the Wheat penny folder.

When you buy from craigslist make sure you meet at a local food resturant (McD, wendy's, burger king, etc) and make sure you look at them before you buy them. Make sure they are all wheaties. Dont describe what you drive but what you will be wearing (sweatshirt) and dont go alone.

here you go. Try emailing this guy.
Tell him your story and also that you would like to start a Wheat penny collection. Considering he told you "Think of the people that have touched them." they are most likely worn. Ask him how many he has.

ask him if he would can split his lot up into rolls for you. It comes to about $3.50 per roll. This is not a bad deal especially if you only have a few pennies currently in your collection.

i would not drop that many anyway. That is too much for coins that you dont need for your collection.

Wow $3.50 a roll seems to be the going price. About five years ago a dealer was retiring and I bought 25 rolls of wheats for a dollar a roll, including three rolls of just 1943's. Just starting to go through them now, lots of vf and higher but no keys or semi keys. Now I am kicking myself I should of bought more at that price he had about 30 more rolls. I am am avid collector of American coins living in Canada and my experience is that I can buy US coins cheaper in Canada at dealers and flea markets than in the US.

Nice wheat find!
Pocket-change wheaties are what got me started in coin collecting.
