welcome to the forum, we would need to see picture to be able to give any info. It doesn't sound legal tender to me bur a privately minted/issued medal/token commemorating the above rotary club. However that does not mean it' is of no value. Things of these sort are highly specialised and may only be collected by a limited amount of collectors. Good luck Maybe if we can see a photo. it might help.

fly, first, welcome to the forum! You'll enjoy it here with lots of friendly people and a knowledge base which defies description.

The coins to which you refer are actually souvenir tokens rather than spendable money although in some towns or cities which produce them for special occasions often will accept them in lieu of actual cash payments. (I'm not certain if this practice is strictly legal in the US, but I've seen it done on many occasions. It might be considered "barter" instead of actual cash, but I've never heard of the US Dept of Treasury ever complaining.).

The tokens themselves have no intrinsic value except to those who collect them or who collect souvenirs of those sites where they visited. They cannot be spent at anyplace other than wherever they were sold, if they could be spent at all.

Lake Havasu isn't that far from where I live here in Arizona, but I've only passed through the place rather than actually stop there to visit. It's too much of a tourist trap although I wouldn't mind obtaining a couple of the souvenir "dollars" since I have a casual collection of such tokens (largely wooden nickels, some "Maui dollars" and other good luck pieces or bar tokens).

When I visited London Bridge (in Arizona) they were still selling some of these tokens in the gift shop at the west end of the bridge. That was a few years ago - but long after 1971.

Very interesting. Cote's The Handbook of US Municipal Trade Currency -1993 lists these as having been made every year from 1972 through 1993. (except '91) Each year has a different design though they are issued in various metals. These are redeemable in many businesses during the year of issue though relatively few are usually "spent". None are listed as particularly scarce though these early ones are a little tougher. There is a small but very avid contingent of collectors for these. Most of this sort of token will bring between two and ten dollars on ebay. Cote lists them at four and five dollars each.

The '71 isn't listed though I have run into a few unlisted ones in the past.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Might be more fun to go to Lake Havasu and pick up a few tokens in person. It's reputed to be a party town per the Arizona Republic:

My problem is I'm not the party type. However, I don't mind some people-watching
