I only live about 2 1/2 hours from the Canadian border(Ohio)
I have a new found interest in getting some coins from different countries. I plan on being up that way in a month or two. My question is, if I walk into a bank while there and ask for a roll of each denomination coin, will this present a problem at all?
Except your Dollar and up coins, I may just ask for a few each.

Nope, not at all, get as many rolls as you like. But there are some banks that I'd avoid, stick with a TD

don't you get TD America down there? Some banks have really bad hours, I remember I went to go to my safety deposit box, and all 3 times I tried to get there the bank was closed and I went there during the banking hours.

TD is Toronto Dominion Bank .. there are many of them, as well as Scotiabank.

Thanks for the help. I have no TD America banks anywhere near me. I do live in a smaller town though, and within a half hour drive there are only 6 banks, 3 different chains.

ayejay: I do the exact same thing when I visit the US. I get a few rolls of cents, and less of each increasing denomination. I even try to score a few presidents I'm missing for face value.

I just try to stay polite and not let on that I'm Canadian without an account.

Buying coins (at a bank at which you're not a customer) is usually no problem. Selling them back might lead to ID checking, small fees, or maybe oughtright refusal. Luckily, I can dump US coins in Canada, but I've heard the reverse can't be done so easily.

Anyway, good luck roll-searching up north!

Toronto Dominion Bank has more branches in the USA than in Canada. With more US banks going under Canadian Banks are opening all over US so just find a canadian bank and you can order canadian money and hope the loonie doesnot go up more than $1.00 US.

I am not so sure why there's all this talk about the TD bank in the US.

What makes people think you can order Canadian coins from the American TDs?

I hope I'm wrong and you CAN, but I suspect it would be a bit like asking for Dutch coins from the ING bank, or for Hong Kong coinage from HSBC.

If I travel to south of the border I have to order US dollars at the current rate if I dont do this Canadians get ripped-off in the money exchange when you do business in the good old USA.

I've never heard of a bank that deals in foreign coins either, regardless of where it's headquartered. In Ontario TD has the advantage of being one of the only places where you can dump loose coins for free, only at a handful of branches though (google for list of addresses). Closest to your location might be Hamilton if crossing near Buffalo, or London for a Detroit crossing (much farther from the border in that case).
