I'm just wondering if anyone else collects proof sets. I got a few and I'm wondering what everyone else has and where they get them?

I have a partial collections of proof sets from 1968 to 1998, I got most of them from ebay in a large lot that I went in with somebody. I also have a few forigen proof sets that I bought for my 1986 world coin and bank note set. Have proof sets from Austraila, Canada, UK.

I've only collected proof sets from the year I was born, which was 1980. They are now worth less than their original issue price! lol Go figure. I also have some silver State Quarters in their proof packaging, however I only have those for their silver content.

I plan to start collecting proof sets in 2011 going forward. I have no illusions about their future value though. Any price appreciation will probably be minimal, unless I get a proof with some kind of error or a particular coin has an unusually low mintage quantity.

I have all of them from 65' through 2010'. I'm not a huge fan but I like them enough to keep up from now on. I'm not sure if I will go any further back with silver so high. I got a few of mine at auctions,a few more on Amazon, and the rest from ebay. 2010' came from the mint. I started by getting my birth year and graduation year then 20 years later I got some at an auction and decided to catch up.

I've gone in spurts since the 70s. Now I'm down to mostly post-1998. I like the silver ones but have both. I'd say I have half the sets since 1999. Always from the US Mint, for better or worse. Beyond a few as proof exhibits, they're not my favorites coins except for special years, like kids' birth years, graduations, etc. Those really seem to be appreciated.

I have some from 1965 up. Not all of them. Most I got in purchased coin lots or when I saw one that I couldn't pass up because of the price. I do have the 1999 until now because of the quarters. Started buying those for my grand-kids (5) and can't seem to stop. My wife worked in a daycare for a few years and we used to buy them as gifts for newborns. Nice gift. Most parents really appreciated them and many were impressed.

I own 1968 to present and I really love the collection. Not really that interested in the earlier sets in envelops but may work my way back with some of them. They didn't make proof sets in 65-67, correct?

Lots of them from somewhere in the early 60's. Every year I order many of them for presents and keep some for myself.

1965-1967 they made neither Proof or Mint sets. They made Special Mint Sets

I buy new silver proof sets mainly from the US Mint. Sometimes I buy from ebay, as long as they have the US Mint packaging. Still haven't gotten the 1999 or 2001 silver proof sets. Kind of high priced. The 2010 silver proof set from the US Mint is a bit more than I want to pay.

I just recently within the last year started purchasing proof sets. Although with silver surging like it is, I am not sure I will be picking up many 2011 sets.

I "partially" collect Proof Sets. I have bought a lot of them from a local coin shop over time to break them open for my albums. This is a really good way to acquire the individual coins for their prospective albums. And generally the sets are very inexpensive. I collect doubles of Proofs since about '06-'07....to "keep one" and then "crack one". I hope to continue doing this, to stay current with my albums, for the rest of time. But yeah, I would say visit your local coin shop, if you have one, to get all the Proof Sets you want. And usually you'll get very cheap prices there for them.

I buy by subscription from the mint, I used to do mint sets but the quality was so bad in them I went to proof sets.
I find better mint state coins in circulation than what I was getting in the sets from the mint, kinda sad really.

I've been picking up sets from the local dealer from the 50s and early 60s. Also the mint sets from that time frame in the plastic packets in Manila envelopes. I also collected the state series as they were issued.
