Hi all,

I've been noodling through $3000 worth of 20c coins over the last week or two. I have a few things including RSI of the right thumb to show for it. The quest for a 1966 wavy is just too overwhelming at the moment but I'm taking a week off and adopting better "work practices" to avoid the same mistake.

I have decided that I'm going to concentrate on finding these sorts of uncirculated type coins. I know there are many others to look for but I am not greedy. I'd rather specialise in one or two things and let the other things go for other collectors to find. A bit like not overfishing a spot. I'll take the rare nice COF and I have learnt how to recognise the 2004 BH coin at a glance so its hard not to pick them out. Also found a 2005 with a large rim Cud.

Nevertheless here are my best finds in what I am interested in. I really want the 1971 in similar condition also 1968,69 and 70 would really make my day.

I don't collect foreign coins, however I'd still like to welcome you to the forum and wish you a happy New Year! What's a 'wavy?'

The 1966 "wavy 2" 20 cent is a celebrated error/die variety in the Australian decimal series. On a very small number of London-minted coins, a fortuitously-placed die chip between the top of the base of the number "2" in "20", and the water-whorl just above it, makes the base of the 2 look "wavy" rather than flat. It catalogues at hundreds of dollars, even in fairly worn condition (and any pulled from circulation today are likely to be very worn after circulating for nearly 50 years). See this website for pics and info.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone. It's a very friendly forum and I'm sure I'll enjoy my time here immensely.

I've decided after the RSI event that intensive/obsessive noodling is probably not my thing and have found a few websites where I can buy all the 20c pieces in UNC condition. Around $650 for about 30-40 coins. $20 each. I can live with that as it means I save myself alot of work.

I'm probably going to do that and then just go easy on the noodling side and maybe I'll be rewarded with a worn out wavy 20c.

Not liking my chances anymore though. I think I'll have to buy a wavy too. Fortunately I can afford one.

to the forum. You've got some nice 20¢ already. If you have people who are likely to give you presents, just make sure to drop some 'coin' hints while they are around.

A couple years ago, my son gave me a 'wavy' and a 'mule' for Christmas, so you never know what might eventuate.

My one and only wavey came from noodling a sack of 20 cent coins from the NAB. I have also found a 2001 x 170 degree upset (rotated). I too have found a large 2005 Coming Home rim Cud (but only the one). I also have a 1999 rim Cud. There are numerous errors to be found. Whilst noodling can be laborious, it is those uncommon and sometimes sensational finds that keep you going.
