That's a nice one grouse12; I've never seen one before. I like them all and don't have a favorite although I particulaly like the Kiwi on the 20 cent and the Endeavour ship on the 50 cent coin.

New Zealand has a lot of birds on their coins. Are there any coins with the Kea on it? That crazy New Zealand bird deserves it's own coin. I've never seen a bird with more character than the Kea, the world's only mountain parrot and one of the smartest and most destructive you'll ever find.

No Jim there isn't one with a Kea on it yet.Maybe it has upset too many people destroying the rubber seals on their car windows and stealing aerials, food, clothes and anything else they can find!!

As for beauty I must mention the "RING" struck a couple of years ago for the Lord of the Ring movie. I know it was a commemorative but the eye appeal is beyond compare!

Of the circulating designs, I like the 50˘ the best. Not sure how it looks on the new, tinier coins, though.

How about a coin featuring Antarctica. Chrischurch is a staging area for expeditions heading to Antarctica. Many countries have permanent research facilities and lay claim to areas of Antarctica. Just wondering if NZ ,or any country, pays tribute to this land through their coinage. What about penguins? The Falkland Islands has a coin with penguins...Any other country?

Hi Jim, New Zealand doesn't have an Antarctic coin but we do have two penguins. One is the 2005 $5 fiordland penguin and the other is the 1988 $1 yellow eyed penguin. I have hopefully added links to a pic of each below. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-c...27069304.htm

For some reason it has a shiny, toned finish to it
