I heard through the grapevine that Loomis is pulling out the silver in the coins that come through and has a contract with a company to buy it all. Really wouldn't surprise me...haven't found much in Loomis boxes. Most of my finds have been CWRs or boxes from Brinks. Probably just a matter of time before all of the armored car companies follow suit. Any thoughts from other forum members?

Russ, can you give us more info on the source of this particular 'grapevine' of yours?
and I can confirm that loomis boxes REALLY suck. I have NEVER found any silver in loomis boxes, and I've been through about 10,000.00 in those. string and sons and brinks I've had luck with, though.

A fellow coin collector has a friend who knows a head honcho in their corporate office. Loomis' corp office is in Houston...we're in the DFW area. Thinking about calling and asking them myself. There is a number listed on their website 713-435-6700.

Ouch, I really hope that Loomis has no connections with string and son boxes.

we need to start a roll hunters' union. but yeah, I think one of us should call for sure. it can't hurt.
deltron, I don't think that loomis does the string/sons boxes. i have done a lot of loomis in the past, and this may not even be new news, because I've done loomis for about 8 months here and there and gotten nothing. it's more than likely that this policy has been in place for some time now. in this case, we probably have more time before the other companies catch on, but probably no more than year.

Deltron...String and Sons makes the wrappers...has nothing to do with the distribution of coins.

I know, but Loomis handles distribution and was not sure if they actually do the rolling with string and son product. I know the bank I deal with gets deliveries done by Garda which has string and son boxes.

Same here SD, for the first time the other day I saw a loomis van driving around. Not one of their delivery trucks though.

I know that here in the Dallas area Loomis services BofA and Wells Fargo. I am not sure who else they service.

Who cares. Look, don't be discouraged guys. A couple months back this guy I know, who is a gas station clerk, had an older fella come in and buy $40.00 in gas with...can you guess? Morgans. The man even told this clerk that 'these are old.' Of course my friend knew that, and kept the dollars. He also had a woman buy a single stick cigarette (when they were still legal in WA) with 4 silver quarters. My point is, silver coins WILL still get into circulation. We just have to be even more vigilant and search even more rolls. These companies may have a large volume of coin coming through their possession, but we have more people. I like the Roll Hunters Union idea. Lets do it.

I was really hoping to keep this a serious post to get other forum members thoughts/insights. Yes, silver coins will continue to come into circulation, no doubt. However, if the armored car companies are pulling them, then that kills roll hunting except for the coins that slip through.

You also have to factor in us increasing the volume of coins we need to search to yield anything. Banks will become increasingly aware to the fact we are costing them mucho dollars through coin ordering fees. They will not like the fact that we dump sometimes thousands of dollars worth of coinage on them, and will enforce large ordering fees on all customers wanting boxes of coins(like most banks in my area). One can only hope business continues as normal.

russ didn't you get some real insight in my post?
i think that it's very possible that this won't actually be hurting us too much because loomis has probably been pulling the silvers for some time now.
can we thrive with loomis alone pulling silvers? heck yeah. we only have to hope other companies don't follow suit.

Obla...I am more looking for people who might have insight into the situation. Confirm or deny. Maybe know of other armored car companies following Loomis' lead. Although it seems we all live across the country, maybe we can help each other find banks that have the best finds? That's why I try and ask where forum members got their boxes.
