Name the first coin to bear the motto "E Pluribus Unum" along with the meaning of that motto. Bonus: If anyone can name the first place this motto was seen here in America, your prize will be upgraded. This Contest will run 1 week or until someone gets it right. I have purposely started week 1 with an easy one, but don't expect all to be this easy. Prize will be: A proof St. Gauden (copy) or the upgraded: 1866 Three Cent Nickel in a full Good. |

ND, I'm going to guess that it was the 1878 Morgan dollar and it means "out of Many -- One". I believe the first time it was used was in a London Mag. called "Gentlemen's Magazine in 1731. catman |

I forgot. The first time it was offically seen in America was when it was suggested by the Great Seal Committee in 1776

OOPS!! E Pluribus Unum was first used on the 1786 New Jersey Copper. It means "out of many, one". Proposed by Franklin, Jefferson and Adams on Aug. 20, 1776 and first appeared on the Great Seal in 1782. |
