These belonged to my 90 year old grandfather who passed away in 2001. I am wondering which ones are likely real. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks

I think that the bottom two might be "real" or actual paper currency in used condition. My guess is that the Confederate and Civil War era paper you have there is from a replica set. They all seem to be great looking and I wouldn't mind owning a set like those myself, copies or not, I kinda like them but the paper seems to be almost in the same aged color and exact condition for all of the notes, even though they are from different states and denominations. I would be skeptical of those. Welcome to CCF forums.

Interesting. I really don't have any experience with this type of thing, so I appreciate your expertise.

Yeah, the two German notes are genuine.... the $50 Confederate note 'might' be as well, but some folks here can tell you pretty much for sure (based on the serial number) I believe.
The rest of the Confederate notes are copies on artificially aged paper.

As zeewool says regarding the $50 note, frequently you can tell by the serial number. This is a website which lists known fake notes & their serials. http://www.rebelstatescurrency.com/...uctions.htmlThe good news is your serial is not listed. Not to say that it's definitely real. But it's not definitely fake.

The $50 blueback does appear to be real. The other old Confederate and State notes, including the CPLA note at the top, are all replicas listed on the Crutch Williams site. Most of them have the distinctive crinkly appearance of replicas washed in vinegar to artificially age them; that is how they were sold. The two German hyperinflationary notes at the bottom are also genuine.

about the $50... there's a few pics of it... and they appear to be different bills, but they have the same serial.

I have some replica civil war era notes that I bought in Gettysburg when I was a young boy (c.1982). I recognize several of them above. If they are like the ones I have, there will be nothing printed on the reverse side. If I recall correctly, mine also have "COPY" printed on them (which I do not see on these). I will have to dig them out to confirm.

Quote: bout the $50... there's a few pics of it... and they appear to be different bills, but they have the same serial. I noticed that also, the bottom of one of them is cut straight and the other is not. if these are actually two different bills than you will know for a fact that it isn't real because there should be no two bills with the exact same serial number. Did you cut the bill yourself to try and straighten out the cut? If you did I wouldn't suggest you do this because I would just want to leave it as original as it was when received instead of altering it in any way

The confederate $50 is the same bill. I think it looks different because one is scanned and the other is a photo. The bottom is slightly cut off in the scan. I didn't do any cutting to any of the bills.
Thanks for the Crutch Williams site, Sap. It can now be said definitively that they are fake.
Thank you all for your time and help.
