Hello down under. This is my first note to this site. I have checked the two pages of headings, and there was one that was close to what I am asking. That was How to Grade Paper Banknotes. We in Canada are about to follow Australia's lead and change our banknotes to Polymer Banknotes. I am wondering if there was any changes on how one grades polymer banknotes compared to paper banknotes? Have a good day.
Short answer is no. Polymer notes, while lasting a great deal longer than paper notes, will still crease and fold like paper with use. However you will be very hard pressed to find one that is torn or has a hole in it unless it has been deliberately done. Even then you will need something sharp to damage it.
You will find them, though, that people have tried to tear, especially from Central American countries. One of the tests down there is "if you can destroy it, it's fake".
Thanks for the responses, we are also in the midst of removing the penny from circulaton, most likely next year. There are a lot of changes coming for Canada. Thanks again.
