Just found this one in a CWR the rim is not there ,the cent has the normal thickness to it but tapers off at the rim on both sides .
What do you think is the cause to this ?
Thanks in advance,
Matt-

Looks like a partial collar strike to me, but definitely wait for other opinions.

I believe this happens when the "normal" part of the rim is retained by the collar, but the "wider" part was above it.

Are these and broadstrikes one in the same?

Is that what is reffered to as a "train wheel effect" on the rim,and if so the partial collar strike causes this?

Could have been struck with the end of a socket spanner ( PMD), or without a collar (error). As I understand it, when a blank is converted into a planchet, A rim is put on the edge, and perhaps this has been flattened during the collarless strike.

I'm with Mike on this one, it looks hammered. The socket idea is plausable but definetly post mint damage in my opinion. The fracturing all around and the hard slope at the rim doesn't look to me like anything the mint would produce.

I wondered if the tops of the Motto we enlarged, but they are just flattened. PMD. Sorry for the extra images.
