Haven't got this coin in hand but saw the reverse and decided to take a shot at it. I believe it is the oval "O" type but may be mistaken. What do you think? nlp

By the picture, I'm on the fence with this one, I would expect a very narrow gap for the Oval type in 1888....I'm leaning towards normal. However there are only 8 or so vams for the ovals so I think a close up of the O and attributions points is the next shot at nailing this one down Noel.... Nice coin to...Gene

Gene, I have one of these already. That's what caught my eye about the one above. It just didn't seem open enough to be a normal "O". Pics of one I have to follow. Noel

Can't wait to hear what you have, Its really a close call. as its an online picture....your graded XF before TPG is seen..the overall 1st pic was looking a little wide for an oval,, but the close up is dead on.... perhaps this is what you will find when you get it in hand....

Got the coin in hand today. I'd say not an MS coin as advertised but surely an oval "O". Looks to be the VAM-17. I squeezed it really hard trying to shrink it to a VAM-5 but the MOJO didn't work. nlp

Noel, I believe you have it correct, VAM 17, the die gouge in the lower chest feathers has it nailed...Also I put it on my 42 inch TV...your pictures have great resolution... the Gouge in the are in liberty also comfirms it as does other indicators..TOP 100 Coin
Very nice find..and INTUITION , as it is not as clear as the usual OVAL type mint marks are usually very narrow...your eyes have seen, the in between...where the OVAL MM is wide this one is slightly wider than the narrow oval MM but not the normal WIDE MM for the non-oval MM..GREAT JOB!!Congrad's
