This came from my grandfather's collection. It's pretty worn and I'm still trying to make out whether the mintmark is visible or not. It should be that little blip underneath the last leaf on the branch next to the "E" in one. I'm thinking about transferring the collections to newer folders, as this has been in a 50's-60's era Whitman folder for a long time. The amount of wear on the dime has probably been accelerated as a result. Sorry about the blurry obverse photo.

Looks like an 's' to me too.

I saved your picture and cropped and zoomed in on the mint mark but it's too blurry to tell, it does look more like an S then a D in the picture but a better close-up shot would help.

Unfortuntely that's about the best I can do with my camera. I might try shining a flashlight on to see if it better highlights the mintmark. Comparing the mintmark with the 16-S I have shows that it's a bit narrower. It might also be the scuffs near the mark that's giving it an S appearence. EDIT: I took another shot. This time I put the D on top of the 16-S for comparison. I might end up taking it to the local coin shop to get it checked out just in case. I really need a magnifying glass.

Your coin is a borderline FR2 and is an S as stated. You can see the upper left loop of an S. Welcome!

try cropping your pictures before you upload them, that way we can see just the area around the mint mark and it will be in a higher resolution. I hope it is a D but I still think it's an S from what I see in the pics so far.

The mint mark appears (to me) to be an "S". The upper corner of your mint mark arches over where the D comes to an abrupt point on the upper left. Here's a reverse shot of an FR-02 1916-D for comparison:

Now that I've seen the 16-D pic for comparison, yeah it does look like mine is an S. That's disappointing... At least now I have a new goal for metal detecting. I might still try to get a better look under a magnifier just to be sure.
