I was always told they weren't the best way to store coins because when you insert or remove them they come in contact too much and can damage each other. A while ago I bought 2 tubes of 60-64 proof quarters from a reputable dealer who told me he's had them in there since the 60's. They were the cloudy square tubes, not round, and had them taped where the top went on. Only 4-5 came out with toning when I took them out to put them into 2x2's. I only use tubes to store spare coins that I've pulled from circulation or those I consider junk silver.
