Does a second hand shop count, but he's expensive. Other than that I have an 8 hour drive.

There are a few coin shops around here, but they're really bullion dealers that also sell coins, as far as I can tell. Their collectible coins are only the coins people bring in for bullion value that they feel they could sell individually. They seldom have anything in high grade, and darn near nothing in copper or nickel.

The sad thing is that the presence of so many "coin dealers" probably makes it impossible for someone to open up a real collector-focused coin shop.

If you want to buy locally, the only alternative is the shows that happen from time to time.

I have a few that could be considered local. Only one is really a "coin dealer" The rest are either hobby shops or jewelry dealers first.

Except for the real dealer, they are rude and overpriced, The real coin dealer is also overpriced on most of his stuff.

There is a coin and stamp shop about 45 minutes from me who is pretty cool with fair prices. But he doesn't always have a lot in stock.

I have ended up getting to know quite a few dealers on a first name basis at the local coin shows. Friendly, with good service and prices with them. Pretty much the only ones I do business with anymore.

I have 6 coin shops with in 20 miles. One of them I go to 3 or 4 times a week.
Two of them I go to about once a week.

If I wanted to go out to 50 or 60 miles I know of at least 4 more.

We also have 4 or 5 coin shows a year .. more if I wanted to make the two hour drive
to Biloxi MS.

Until I saw the Biloxi I thought you were from Illinois. We too have lots of coin sores all over the place. I keep away from them since we also have coin shows every weekend withing 15 miles of me. More shows if you like the bigger ones.

If any of you all live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I would love to know about those dealers. I have two in town (San Jose) but they are just plain worthless to me. they don't even carry supplies (oh, they'll order for you but I can do that myself for a lot less)

Anyone have dealers out here?

I know of one dealer that's about thirty miles away in Biloxi. Other than him, the Greater Biloxi Coinshow happens about four times a year.
